Music, as the saying goes, is the soul of living and Punjabis have created a niche for themselves with their sonorous and pulsating music. No matter what the occasion, people can be seen gyrating and pulsating to Punjabi beats. But due recognition should be given to people who have put Punjabi music on top, especially Daler Mahndi.

       

Born and brought up in Patna, he left his home at the age of 14 to pursue his dream of becoming a singer. Mahndi started out as a ghazal singer inspired by the poetry of Qateel Shifai. In the meantime, Punjabi pop revolution was brewing and in 1995 Daler Mahndi cut his first debut album ‘bolo ta ra ra’,which sold over half a million copies eithin a few months of its release.

       

He earned the title of Channel V’s male pop singer award for his album, ‘Dardi rab rab’ and ‘Ho Jayegi Bale Bale’. Daler Mahndi also dabbled in movies doing item numbers for Bachchan starrer ‘Mritudaata’ and ‘Arjun Pandit’.
