Laxmikant, along with Pyarelal, formed one of the most successful music director duo of the Hindi cinema. Born in 1937, Laxmikant never had the opportunity to finish his education. A friend of the family advised him to learn music and he spent two years trying to learn the melodies from noted player Hussain Ali.

       

He was only ten years old when he began performing in Indian classical music concerts. As luck would have it, he played for a Lata Mangeshkar concerts. As luck would have it, he played for a Lata Mangeshkar concert in Colaba. His playing style impressed Lata. He was soon introduced to music directors like Shankar-Jaikishan , S.D. Burman and C. Ramachandra. Later, he met Pyarelal Sharma, a violin Player. They became fast friends and were appointed assistants to directors Kalyanji-Anandji in 1953. Their first film was ‘Parasmani’. Thereafter that, there was no looking back for the duo. They churned out a great number of hit songs. They received many Filmfare awards. Laxmikant died due to kidney failure in 1998.
