Talat Medmood was a famous playback singer of the Hindi film industry. He was born on February 24, 19 24. He was just 16 years old when he first sang for A.I.R. and the stellar performance gave him almost instant recognition as a playback singer.

       

Initially with the Bengali film industry in 1945, he even played the role of the protagonist in New Theatre’s ‘Sampati’. By 1949, Mehmood was in Mumbai. He acted in several films like ‘Sone Ki Chidiya’, ‘Mailik’, ‘Dak Bungalow’, ‘Raftaar’ and ‘Waris’.

       

His rendition of ‘Jalte Hain Jiske Liye’ was what made him the most sought after playback singer in Hindi films. Naushad, Ghulam Mohammed, Khayyam, O.P. Nayyar and S.D. Burman were among the noted music directors he worked with. When it came to the family of Ghazal, there was no one in his class. His tender, usually soft-hearted renditions of the usual pledges to unrequited love were the stuff of legends. Talat Mehmood died in 1998.
