CHEVY CHASE

Actor Chevy Chase was born Cornelius Crane Chase on 8 October 1943 in New York.

Chevy Chase was initially hired as a writer on Saturday Night Live but then started appearing on the show and immediately gained popularity.

Chevy Chase was the first member of Saturday Night Live to leave. He took a number of film roles, before he had a couple of big hits with Caddyshack in 1980 and Fletch in 1985. His Saturday Night Live replacement, Bill Murray, was a co-star of Caddyshack.

Chase starred in a less-succesful sequel to Fletch called Fletch Lives in 1989. It seems that there have been further attempts to get another Fletch film going.

According to an interview with Chevy Chase by Louis Hobson of The Calgary Sun, “the filmmaker Kevin Smith approached Chase about reviving his Irwin Fletcher character from the Fletch movies, but nothing came of it.”

In the same interview Chase described the interest of Miramax Film’s Harvey Weinstein in making another Fletch film:

“Harvey wants Ben Affleck to play Fletch. First he suggested I play a minor character, but I said that was impossible because I was too identified with the character. Then Harvey suggested Ben play someone like my son and I’d be his mentor. I liked that idea, but nothing ever came of it.”

On October 31, 2004 Chevy Chase appeared on Bravo’s Celebrity Poker Showdown, playing for Friends of The Earth.
