Seann William Scott grew up in Cottage Grove a mid-size Minnesota town of 33,000. He was the seventh child for his father, a factory worker, and mother, a homemaker. He graduated early in 1996 from Park High School. Seann was discovered at a talent competition in Los Angeles, and almost immediately was flown to New York by ABC to test for “All My Children.” His face has also been seen from his basketball playing appearance on a national Sunny Delight commercial and the recent American Express campaign with Magic Johnson. After a short-lived television series and an Aerosmith video later, Scott took on the role of Stifler and helped usher in the teen sex comedy’s resurgence of the late ’90s. He continued down this path with three more successful teen-movie offerings Final Destination, Road Trip, and Dude, Where’s My Car?, all released in 2000. Scott reprised his role in American Pie 2 for the summer of 2001. But 2001 also found Scott taking roles that would require him to stretch beyond the dumb-jock mode that has brought him fame; he appeared in Kevin Smith’s Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back, as well as Ivan Reitman’s alien comedy Evolution with Julianne Moore, David Duchovny, and Orlando Jones.
Seann decided it was time to move on from comedy and try something a little more serious. He took on the role of Ben in the independent film ‘Stark Raving Mad’ about a guy left repaying his brothers debts after his tragic death. The film was not a success and did no go down well with critics, nor did Seann’s bad boy image. Seann next took on the role of Kar in Bulletproof Monk. He co-stars with martial arts legend Chow Yun Fat and ex model Jamie King. Seann underwent a vigorous training regime of 12 hrs a day to get into shape and learn the skills of martial arts that he required for the film. Bulletproof Monk reached number 3 in the box office charts when it was released in May 2003, and even though once again the critics were hard on Seann everyone else accepted him in his new action role. He returned one more time for the final instalment of American Pie, American Wedding. Seann was adamant he would not be returning for a third slice of pie but apparently once he read the script he was sold, saying “It is the funniest one yet.” The film was released in August 2003 to a great reception from ‘Pie’ fans everywhere. Seann next went from one movie set to another shooting over to Hawaii to film his next action flick ‘The Rundown’ in which he co-stars with The Rock and Christopher Walken.
The Rundown again was a box office success, grossing over $47m in the USA. As well as continuing to build his film career, Seann plans to venture behind the camera as well. He plans to follow in the footsteps of his producer brother Daniel William Scott, and he created his own production company earlier this year as part of his contract for American Wedding and The Rundown. The production company, named Identity Films, is a contract production deal with Universal Studios Hollywood. He is reported to be first in line for the remake of the French film Gregoire Moulin Vs Humanity which if all goes to plan Seann will be co-producing.
