BOB DOLE

Name: Robert Joseph Dole
Born: 22 July 1923 Russell, Kansas

Robert Joseph "Bob" Dole (born July 22, 1923) is a retired United States Senator
from Kansas from 1969–1996, serving part of that time as United States Senate
Majority Leader. He was the Republican candidate in the 1996 U.S. Presidential
election and the Republican vice presidential candidate in the 1976 Presidential
election. He holds the unfortunate distinction of being the only man in the
history of the two major U.S. political parties to have been his party's nominee
for both President and Vice President, but who was never elected to either
office.

In 2007, President George W. Bush appointed Dole as a co-chair of the commission
to investigate problems at Walter Reed Army Medical Center, along with Donna
Shalala.
