DR. RAJENDRA PARASAD
       

The first President of India, Dr. Rajendra Prasad was born on December 3, 1884 in Zeradei, Bihar. Rajendra Prasad, from his childhood, was excellent in studies. He always stood first throughout his academic career. He passed the Masters in Law examination with honours, winning a gold medal in 1915. He was also a Doctor of Law.

       

The visit of Gandhi to Champaran and his dedication, conviction and courage had a great influence on Dr. Prasad. During the Non-Cooperation Movement, he gave up his law practice and started a National College near Patna in 1921. He toured all over Bihar and spread the message of Gandhiji. He also participated in the Salt Satyagraha. In 1939, he was elected as the President of the Indian National Congress. When the Constituent Assembly was constituted in 1946, he was elected its President and after the ratification of the constitution, he was elected the President of Independent India.
