N.T. Rama Rao was a great and popular Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh. After making it big in Telugu films, he entered Andhra politics and became a top leader.

       

He was born on May 28, 1923, in an ordinary peasant family in a remote village in Krishna district. He passed the matriculation examination in 1940. While in college, he took part in some dramas. Later, he took the job of sub-registrar. But he wanted to make his career in films. L.V Prasad’s lMana Desam’ was N.T.R.’s first film. After his role in cSri Venkateswara Mahatyam he became very popular. He acted in 292 films in a career spanning 33 years between 1949 and 1982.

       

He was deeply moved by the plight of the poor and gave a patient hearing to their problems when they called on him at his residence. Later he quit films and founded the Telugu Desam Party in 1982. In 1983, his party came to power and he became the Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh. He kept many of his election promises and became a leader of masses.
