Nobody had ever imagined that a junior school dropout and a simple housewife would be the head of India’s second most populous state, Bihar. Rabri Devi was dragged into politics by her beloved husband and former Chief Minister of Bihar, Laloo Prasad Yadav. Following his arrest in the corruption scandal, Laloo Yadav resigned his post as the Chief Minister of Bihar and named his wife Rabri Devi as his successor. Her first term as a Chief Minister lasted for a little over 18 months and the second term lasted just about 12 months. She became the 30th Chief Minister of Bihar on March 11,2000 which was also her third term.
Rabri Devi was born in 1959. At the age of 14, she married Laloo Prasad Yadav. However, she could not receive high school education. Before becoming the Chief Minister of Bihar she was the mother of nine children and was leading a simple rustic housewife’s role. After joining politics, she has held many portfolios like Cabinet Secretariat and Coordination, Home, Finance, Personnel and Administrative Reform.
