Suresh Prabhakar Prabhu is currently a Union Cabinet Minister. He was born on July 11, 1953 in Mumbai. His father was Sri Prabhakar. Prabhu was educated at the Mumbai University. Later, he was trained at the Institute of Chartered Accountants of India. He was a chartered accountant of Maharastra State Finance Commission in 1995. Later he was elected to the Lok Sabha. In 1996, for the first time, Prabhu became a minister in the Union Cabinet. He was Minister for Industry. He was re-elected to the Lok Sabha in 1998. Later Prabhu was appointed Union Cabinet Minister of Chemicals and Fertilizers.
He has published various papers on a variety of subjects in economics, sociology and taxation. He is the Chairman of Konkan Kala Academy. Prabhu is connected with a large number of organizations in education, sports, adult education, theatre, drama and trade. He is a former Chairman of Saraswat Co-operative Bank. His interests include reading, traveling, sports, music and drama.
