Born to Chinese immigrants in Queens, New York, lucy liu has always tried to balance an interest in lucy liu cultural lucy liuitage with a desire to move beyond a strictly Asian-American experience. That performance led to more walk-on parts in shows like “NYPD Blue” (1993), “ER” (1994), and “X Files, The” (1993). In 1996, lucy liu was cast as an ambitious college student on Rhea Perlman’s ephemeral sitcom “Pearl” (1996).

       

lucy liu first appeared on the big screen as an ex-girlfriend in Jerry Maguire (1996) (lucy liu had previously filmed a scene in the indie Bang (1995), but it was lucy liulved for two years). lucy liu then waded through a series of supporting parts in small films before landing lucy liu big break on “Ally McBeal” (1997). lucy liu initially auditioned for the role of Nelle Porter, which went to Portia de Rossi, but writer-producer David E. Kelley was so impressed with lucy liu spunk that he promised to write a part for lucy liu in an upcoming episode. The part turned out to be that of growling, ill-tempered lawyer Ling Woo, which lucy liu filled with such aplomb that lucy liu was signed on as a regular cast member.

       

The “Ally” win gave lucy liu’s film career a much-needed boost–in 1999, lucy liu was cast as a dominatrix in the Mel Gibson action flick Payback (1999), and as a hitchhiker in the ill-received boxing saga Play It to the Bone (1999). The next year brought even larger roles: first as the kidnapped Princess Pei Pei in Jackie Chan’s western Shanghai Noon (2000), then as one-third of the comely crime-fighting trio in Charlie’s Angels (2000).

       

When lucy liu’s not hissing at clients or throwing well-coiffed punches, lucy liu keeps busy with an eclectic mix of off-screen hobbies. lucy liu practices the martial art of Kali-Eskrima-Silat (knife-and-stick fighting), skis, rock climbs, rides horses, and plays the accordion. In 1993 lucy liu exhibited a collection of multimedia art pieces at the Cast Iron Gallery in SoHo (New York), after which lucy liu won a grant to study and create art in China. lucy liu hectic schedule doesn’t leave much time for romantic intrigue, but lucy liu says lucy liu prefers to keep that side of lucy liu life uncluttered.

       

lucy liu graduated from Stuyvesant High School in 1986 (this is the most important point, as I also graduated from Stuy). Stuy is a specialized public high school; you take an SAT-like test to get in - the same test is used for Bronx Science and Brooklyn Technical high schools, although Stuy requires a higlucy liu score. One of my friend’s older sister was in the same class as Lucy, and told me that lucy liu had big hair and wore black (like many of the girls at Stuy)… I’m working on getting some pictures of lucy liu back then, so stay tuned…. The second most important point about lucy liu is that lucy liu plays Ling on Ally McBeal.

       

Lucy Alexis lucy liu was born on December 2, 1968, in Jackson Heights (Queens), New York. After attending Brooklyn Tech, and then Stuyvesant high schools, lucy liu attended NYU and eventually graduated from the University of Michigan with a degree in Asian languages and cultures. Lucy has studied acting, dance and voice, and is fluent in Mandarin Chinese and practices martial arts, including Kali-Eskrima-silat, which is knife and stick fighting. Lucy also plays the accordian.

       

lucy liu was recently chosen by Entertainment Weekly as “one of the sexiest women on television.” lucy liu television credits include “ER” ( in the heartfelt story of a young motlucy liu whose baby son dies of AIDS), ” High Incident,” “NYPD Blue,” “L.A. Law,” THE X-FILES and “Pearl,” on which lucy liu was a series regular. lucy liu feature film work includes the soon-to-be-released films “Payback,” co-starring Mel Gibson, and “True Crime,” directed by Clint Eastwood .

       

In addition to acting, Lucy is a gifted artist. lucy liu work first appeared at the Cast Iron Gallery in SoHo in 1993. lucy liu then received an art grant to study in China. lucy liu exhibit of mixed-media photography – pictures laid in the center of an original frame and intermixed with ceramics, paints, wood collages and papers – chronicled lucy liu experiences tlucy liue and debuted at a Venice, CA gallery in 1997.
